From its home in a Balkan Hunting Lodge comes this serviceable Beretta Over and Under Shotgun. Manufacturer was Pietro Beretta s.p.a. of Gardone, Italy. From its AB date code, it was manufactured in 1976. Importer in 1976 was Berben Corp, but this one came in through another importer in 2018, stamped on the lower barrel. Class is Over and Under Sporting Shotgun. Mechanism is recoil transfer, non-selective. The bottom barrel fires first. Chambering is 12 gauge, for 2 3/4 inch shells only. Barrels are 28 inches fixed choke, .680 muzzle full choke top barrel, and .702 Modified lower tube. Lower barrel fires first on the forward trigger. Triggers are smooth faced, .250 wide at midsection. Forward pulls at 5 pounds; rear at 4 1/4 pounds with minimal felt creep. Sight system is 12 post, .260 wide ventilated rib with checkered serration top, that sits .15 inch above the top barrel at midsection. Rib supports a chrome bead front sight that matches with the groove serrations on the receiver. Drop is 1 3/4 by 2 3/8 inches, with a minimal 1/4 inch right hand cast. Length of pull is 14 inches from the forward trigger to the end of the blued steel butt plate. Overall length is 44 1/2 inches; and weight empty is 6 pounds 14 ounces, centered at the breech pin. Finish is original blued barrels, plate, lever, spacer, and guard; with chrome receiver and trigger. Stock and forend are glossy refinish. Surface detractions are extensive, principally a series of pins and even bolt heads that the Yugoslavians repaired forend cracks with. Blued surfaces are about 70 percent brown patina. We rate this shotgun as fair, perhaps good, 50 to 60 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Note the added buttstock swivel. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and tight. We estimate this Beretta was fired between 5,000 and 10,000 times in its career, part of which consisted in entertaining guest of Marshal Tito. This S.54 is the ancestor to the modern day 686 series. The lowest priced 686 on berettausa com is $2150. We’re offering the Beretta in the photos, however, for only $ 539.00.
