Here is the Baby Browning’s principal European rival, the Walther Vest Pocket Series. This one is a Model 9. Manufacturer, Waffenfabrik, was Walther Zella Mehlis of Thuringia, Germany, so marked on the slide’s side. From its 620,000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1932 or 1933, during the first year of Nazi Control. Type is blowback action semi automatic pocket pistol. Chambering is .25 ACP or 6.35 Browning in German. Barrel is 2 inches; type is single action with left side safety for right handed shooters. Magazine is original factory 5 shot, 5 +1 fully loaded capacity. Safety works opposite from the Browning; up is fire and down is safe. Firing pin rear shows cocked position. Grips are black polymer, blued escutcheon factory with Walther name and banner at their bottom. Finish is polished surface blued steel. Dimensions are 4 inches by 2 3/4 inches by .65 inch thick. Weight is 9.2 ounces. Surface detractions are moderate, faint amunts of edge wear on both sides, and a few small edge pits on the right side. After all, this was a pocket pistol. We rate it as Very Good Condition, 80 percent vicinity, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all functional. Walther Vest Pockets are all well made and highly prized collector pieces.
